Automated Billing for 4,800+ Members (DANSA Case Study)
Manual billing does not scale. When a membership organisation is processing renewals by hand, every new member adds admin instead of revenue. Building proper Netcash recurring billing was the core of our work with DANSA, the Divers Alert Network in Southern Africa.
The situation
DANSA took over an abandoned membership and recurring-billing platform after the previous offshore developers walked away. Renewals ran on a manual electronic funds transfer (EFT) operation, and the system could not handle recurring payments, upgrades, or the complex rules around diver and non-diver family coverage.
What we did
- Built an Angular frontend with a NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) backend and a GraphQL application programming interface (API).
- Integrated Netcash for automated monthly and annual debit-order billing over Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), plus once-off payments.
- Built flexible membership logic for divers, non-divers, and families, invited sub-members, shared billing, and automated package upgrades and downgrades.
- Replaced the manual EFT process with self-service policy management.
The result
Over 4,800 active members now manage their own memberships without staff involvement. Automated debit orders and renewals cut the manual workload dramatically, and the flexible logic handles the family-coverage edge cases that used to need a person every time.

Recurring billing looks simple until you hit the real-world cases, debit-order runs, failed payments, family groupings, mid-cycle upgrades.
