"Which framework should we use?" comes up on almost every web project. For modern apps, the SvelteKit vs Next.js question is a common one. Both are excellent, but they shine in different situations.

Where Next.js wins

Next.js is built on React, which means a massive ecosystem, a huge hiring pool, and a library for almost anything. For large applications, teams already invested in React, or projects that need the deepest third-party support, it's a safe, powerful default.

Where SvelteKit wins

SvelteKit is leaner. It ships less JavaScript, tends to be faster out of the box, and has far less boilerplate, so development can be quick and the result feels snappy. For performance-sensitive sites and smaller, focused apps, it's a joy to work in. (Our own site runs on SvelteKit.)

How we decide

Ecosystem needs: if the project leans on React-specific libraries, Next.js.
Team and maintenance: who maintains it afterwards, and what do they know?
Performance priority: for the leanest, fastest result, SvelteKit is hard to beat.
Project size: very large apps often benefit from React's maturity.
